simon barnes - Biography
After graduating from College on a Book Production & Design course, I began my career in London, in an Art and Photographic studio - Parker Baines Ltd. Here I learnt paste-up ( the old way) but most importantly, at the time, photographic retouching with a DeVilviss airbrush, long before Photoshop and other digital packages! These basic skills have left me in good stead throughout my working career.
I have worked with a number of clients from the book publishing and magazine industry (some shown on these pages) on projects ranging from catalogue artwork, corporate character design, through to point-of sale and website graphics.
Nowadays I create illustrations digitally with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, after first drawing them with pen & ink. While still using painting media such as watercolour, oils or an even older medium - egg tempera.
